ICCA/UNDP projects benefit communities and protected areas

Project on plots with the Association of Açaí Producers of the Porvenir Community in the TCO BAJO PARAGUÁ and area of influence of the Noel Kempff Mercado National Park

A productive day was experienced during the “Closure of ICCA-UNDP Projects”, where different implementing bodies presented their actions, results and impacts, implementing initiatives around protected areas or areas conserved by indigenous peoples and local communities.

The projects that promoted the ICCA approach were oriented towards locally boosting governance, conservation, leadership, rescue of ancestral knowledge and gender-generations, having been selected and financed within the framework of the Call corresponding to Phase 2 of the ICCA Global Initiative, which for the first time includes Bolivia through the support of the SPP/UNDP.

The presence of Captain Antonio Padilla from Isoseño, giving his testimony in relation to the Project on medicinal plants carried out by the Noel Kempff Mercado Natural History Museum around the Kaa-Iya National Park of the Gran Chaco.

Eight initiatives were developed by organizations with experience in the field, such as FCBC, FUNDESOC, CEPAC, PRODECO, Porvenir, and the Noel Kempff Mercado Natural History Museum. Testimonials from the beneficiaries enriched the interventions.

The Projects are characterized by their commitment to strengthening the management of territories and responding to reducing environmental impacts and contributing to the quality of life of communities around the protected areas of the Amazon, Chiquitanía, Chaco and Pantanal ecoregions.

The event, organized by the Savia Association as an evaluation body, was attended by the Coordinator of the UNDP Small Grants Programme, Eng. Rubén Salas, and the Project Evaluator, Eng. Mario Tapia.
