Discovering leadership talents and fostering the creativity of young people to raise awareness is a key objective of the Environmental Multipliers initiative.
Environmental Multipliers (AMs) are young people who are trained on the benefits and advantages that nature provides, and then transmit the knowledge through different awareness tools, including fauna and flora puppets, which are made by themselves.
From October 8th to 10th in Santiago de Chiquitos, with the participation of young people from Puerto Suárez, Puerto Quijarro, and Santo Corazón, the "Training of Young Environmental Multipliers of the Chiquitanía and Pantanal" camp is taking place. This camp will provide a platform for active environmental multipliers to share their knowledge and inspire new young people to join the initiative. The camp is organized by the SAVIA Association, within the framework of the ECCOS (EU) and Green Livelihoods Alliance (IUCN-NL) programs and the OPERATION JAGUAR (IUCN-NL) project, in collaboration with local schools, the Roboré District Education Office, and the Puerto Suárez Municipal Government.
The event aims to strengthen the capacities of Local Environmental Multipliers by consolidating their training, creating spaces for learning and exchange of experience among the existing groups of Environmental Multipliers in the different localities of the Bolivian Chiquitania and Pantanal, and promoting in this meeting the consolidation of greater skills to transmit in their local societies, responsible attitudes towards their environment.
BACKGROUND
The Environmental Multipliers training process took place during 2018 and 2019, driven by the SAVIA Association in coordination with the Biology Department of the UAGRM (Autonomous University Gabriel René Moreno), the European Union's ECCOS Programme, and the IUCN-NL's Operation Jaguar Bolivia Project, within the framework of the GLA I – Bolivia Project. Protected areas and local organizations also participated. In 2021, the Environmental Multipliers training is being carried out as a complementary activity to local strengthening processes within the framework of current projects under the ECCOS and GLA II – Bolivia Programmes.
Environmental Multipliers have been key to raising awareness among a larger segment of the local population, empowering them to organize initiatives in their municipalities and communities, reconnecting people with nature, and motivating them to take action for the protection of protected areas. These field activities have been supported with logistical and technical assistance from Savia and other partner institutions, with the aim of enabling them to replicate what they have learned in their home communities.
