A LIVING AND FREE JAGUAR: AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE AMAZON

In that mission to raise awareness that requires informing and educating, the school year in Rurrenabaque was inaugurated with the Environmental Day called “LET’S PROTECT THE JAGUAR”, During two days, through talks, activities, and the making of wildlife masks, participants had the opportunity to learn more about the richness of their ecosystems and the role that the Jaguar plays in their stability in the water and carbon cycles.

The Mayor of Rurrenabaque, Mr. Elías Moreno, was present at the closing ceremony of the Workshop, where he presented the awards and recognized the artistic works created by the children and young people, highlighting in a statement from the Municipality that “The aim is to strengthen the protection efforts for this magnificent species.”. It should be noted that this town is a well-known tourist destination, considered the gateway to Madidi National Park through the Department of Beni, a Protected Area that conserves the greatest diversity of flora and fauna species worldwide.

“In this new administration of 2022, we will continue the actions of the «Operation Jaguar» Program. The SAVIA team will continue to spread the message about the fundamental importance of the continued presence of the jaguar in natural ecosystems, alive and free, thus guaranteeing the continued dynamic ecological balance of the remaining natural areas where this magnificent species lives.», highlights Carmen Miranda, Executive President of the SAVIA Association.

The event was organized by the Association for the Conservation and Research of Biodiversity and Sustainable Development – SAVIA, in coordination with the Municipality of Rurrenabaque, within the framework of Operation Jaguar, a project promoted by the International Union for Conservation of Nature Netherlands (IUCN-NL) in Bolivia, Suriname, and Guyana. In Bolivia, the SAVIA Association is constituted as the counterparty to said Operation.
