The TICCA (Territories of Life) Assembly brought together indigenous leaders who remain steadfast defenders of their territories to conserve natural resources in Bolivia.
The event was held in Santa Cruz, where guests from the departments of Santa Cruz, La Paz and Beni were present, worthy representatives from territories that are key to the country's protection.
The action was part of the support plan for active and potential ICCAs in the Amazon Subregion, which includes Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. The Savia Association, as a member of the ICCA Bolivia Network and Regional Coordinator for the Amazonian countries, was responsible for convening the participants.
This first meeting in Management 2023 will give way to joint planning that contributes to the strengthening of the territories of indigenous peoples or local communities, with the vision of guaranteeing the defense of their systems of life, their rights, autonomies and self-determination, despite the difficulties and obstacles they face in the face of the prevailing development models.
It is important to highlight that the lands inhabited by Indigenous peoples are of great value to Bolivia's culture and economy, given their rich biodiversity, historical significance, and the sacred sites they contain. In this sense, ICCAs (Indigenous and Community Convergence Areas) are based on the principles of protecting, managing, and governing natural resources and territories, while recovering and revitalizing ancestral knowledge and livelihoods.
